Danish textile delegation Sourcing from Turkey

Secure and sustainable supply chains are a growing challenge for the Danish business community. That is why The Trade Council in Istanbul, Dansk Erhverv/WEAR and Dansk Mode & Textile are jointly organizing a textile “import” delegation to Turkey in March 2022.

We are doing it again!

We are repeating the successful first visit in November 2021 that offered participants the opportunity to visit Turkey and be matched with textile suppliers that met their specific needs!

You tell us what you need. We take care of the rest!

Secure and sustainable supply chains are a growing challenge for the Danish business community. That is why The Trade Council in Istanbul, Dansk Erhverv/WEAR and Dansk Mode & Textile are jointly organizing a textile “import” delegation to Turkey in March 2022.

Istanbul and Izmir have a large number of international textile production companies. Both places you will be matched with local manufacturers of clothing, apparel or other textile products (e.g. home textile and accessories) that are “tailored” to the specific needs and requirements that you define. On the first day each place, you will meet up 6-8 companies that meet your criteria. On the second day you can visit the ones you find most promising for in-depth discussions and an opportunity to visit their production facilities.

Why Turkey?

The geographical proximity of Turkey, as well as the EU-Turkey customs union, provides advantages, as does the fact that Turkey is one the world’s leading manufacturers and exporters of cotton and textile-related goods.

The Turkish textile industry is the fifth largest textile exporter in the world, and among the leading in terms of social and environmental sustainability. That is because Turkish suppliers already export most of their textile products to the European market, as well as the fact that local legislation and proximity to customers require them to maintain higher sustainability standards than most competitors.

As of 2021, Turkey has more than 7.000 textile manufacturers which are GOTS certified, including both garment and apparel manufacturers. These companies are mostly located in the Western part of Turkey including Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, Denizli and Ankara.

Apart from GOTS, there are several producers who have OEKO-TEX, SEDEX, BSCI and ISO certifications to document the use of sustainable materials without harmful chemicals, and validating safe and fair production and working conditions. In terms of delivering consistent quality, the suppliers in Turkey are among the very best in the sector.

The average order size of the sector is typically high (10.000 pieces a year), but smaller and medium size producers – as confirmed by our first visit – do accept orders of the sizes typically needed by Danish SMEs.

For supply chain and logistics issues, there are several local and international options available able to work directly with producers, customs and shipment tracking. Big Danish freight forwarding companies such as DSV, Maersk, DFDS and Neptun Transport also have offices in Turkey.
